Tomas Kalas will wait until he returns from international duty with the Czech Republic before deciding on his Bristol City future, according to the Bristol Post.

The 26-year-old was one of the standout players for the Robins in the Championship last season, after joining on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson is keen to sign the defender on a permanent transfer and has made him one of his top transfer targets for the summer, as he looks to build a team that can challenge for promotion next season.

This latest report states that Kalas and his representatives remain in talks with Bristol City over a permanent move, but the player is highly unlikely to make a decision on his future until he returns from international duty.

The centre-back has been named in the Czech Republic squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria on Friday and Montenegro on Monday.

Kalas made 41 appearances in all competitions for Bristol City last season, as the team just missed out on a place in the play-offs.

The player has accepted that he has no future at Chelsea and is open to a return to Ashton Gate, but has also attracted interest from a number of other clubs.

The Bristol Post are reporting that the defender has offers from Rangers, Hull City and other unnamed Championship clubs.

The Verdict

Kalas was outstanding for Bristol City last season and he'd be an excellent signing for the Robins on a permanent transfer.

Bristol City could have an advantage over other clubs when it comes to obtaining his signature, as he already knows the club and the players.

The defender obviously wants to wait until after he returns from international duty before making his decision and that's fair enough, but it will be very interesting to see where he ends up.
