Bristol City sweating on player fitness after Pearson reveal before Sheffield United tie

Bristol City have been handed a blow today with the news that Joe Williams could be sidelined for the club’s next fixture, with boss Nigel Pearson telling Bristol Live that they’ll have to ‘see how he is.’

The 24-year-old has played a part in seven league fixtures for the club so far this campaign, bagging one assist from the centre of the field. Over the last few weeks he has featured more prominently for the Robins but he could now be set for some time out of action due to this latest knock.

He picked the injury up during his side’s victory over Stoke and had to be substituted off and while they may have hoped it was only a slight niggle, Pearson has now revealed that it was in fact his hamstring – and that he might not be able to play a part in the club’s next game.

Quiz: What club do these 22 rarely-seen ex-Bristol City players play at now?

What club does Danny Wilson play for now?

Speaking to Bristol Live about the player, Pearson said: “Well, it’s his hamstring, the other one, it was only because he landed very awkwardly.

“He got a push and overextended his knee and he felt a little bit behind his knee. Instead of running and trying to play through it, he communicated with us and we were able to make a decision which hopefully protects him somewhat but we’ll have to monitor that and see how he is.”

It means that he could miss the next game against Sheffield United and it is unclear whether he will miss more action after this weekend too. The Robins will certainly hope not, as Williams has proven so far to be a solid squad player to have around the side this season.

The Verdict

Joe Williams is not a first-team regular but he is certainly a good option to have available to you in a team. His effort in the middle is often understated and he can be a good asset for Bristol City to have.

It is therefore a blow to see him ruled out of action again – especially just as he was featuring a little bit more. Robins’ fans though will be hoping it is nothing more than a slight niggle and that he may be able to get back into action sooner rather than later.
