Bristol City striker Saikou Janneh has provided a major update on his fitness by posting footage of himself back in the gym for the first time since he had surgery on an ankle injury in January.

Janneh picked up the ankle ligament injury while on loan with National League side Torquay United in January.

It is understood that the 20-year-old was set to be recalled and sent on loan to League Two side Swindon Town in the winter transfer window but that plan was halted by his injury.

Janneh had surgery on the issue seven weeks ago and took to Twitter yesterday to reveal some major fitness news.

For the first time since his surgery, Janneh posted footage of him back in the gym as he continued his rehabilitation.

The striker looks an exciting prospect and impressed for the Robins in pre-season before suffering a knee injury in July.

After recovering from that issue, Janneh was sent out on loan to Torquay, where he had turned some heads in the 2018/19 season–grabbing 18 goals and 14 assists and helping them to win the National League South.

He is clearly highly rated at Ashton Gate, as he was given a new four-year deal in June last year.

The Verdict

This is a major boost for Janneh, as it is the first time we have seen him back in the gym since he suffered the nasty ankle ligament injury earlier this season.

The Robins have had some bad luck with injury issues this season, with the likes of Benik Afobe, Jay Dasilva, and Tomas Kalas also missing extended periods.

Janneh is, of course, less integral to the first-team squad than those players but the injury had halted his development so it is great to see him back in the gym.

The teenager looks a really bright prospect and perhaps another young player that can break into the senior side.
