Bristol City have tied down their highly-rated defender Joe Bryan to a long-term contract, after the Bristolian agreed a deal until the summer of 2019.
Bryan signed a two-year deal at Ashton Gate last summer, but an excellent season which saw him star at left-wing back has seen him rewarded once again.
The 21-year-old made 40 league appearances for the Robins last term, scoring six times and attracting interest from Premier League outfits Everton and Southampton as the club marched to the League One title.
Speaking to the club’s official website after the announcement of the deal, Bristol boss Steve Cotterill told of his delight at securing Bryan’s signature for the next four years.
“Joe was another player we were keen to get signed up to a longer contract and I’m pleased we’ve been able to do that now,” the 50-year-old said.
“Joe fully deserves this extended contract for the season he’s had. He’s an intelligent, down-to-earth lad who clearly has his head screwed on.
“Last summer he spoke about the importance of the 2014/15 campaign and he took his chance. Now he’s got to do it again in the Championship and perform to his best.
“It’s good for the football club to have our younger players tied down and pleasing for the lads as well.”
