Bristol City midfielder Niclas Eliasson made his fourth league start of the season over the weekend, and he played a key role as the Robins cruised to a 5-2 victory over Huddersfield at Ashton Gate.

The Robins were in need of a positive result following their 4-1 defeat against West Brom in midweek, and Lee Johnson made the rare decision to call on Eliasson from the start of the match following his positive cameo from the bench against the Baggies.

Eliasson did not disappoint as he scored his first goal of the campaign by nodding home Josh Brownhill's cross, while he also forced Terence Kongolo into an own goal and registered an impressive assist for Ashley Williams bullet header before half-time.

The 23-year-old has often been forced to impress from the bench this campaign, but his brilliant 90-minute performance against the Terriers will surely have seen him firmly force his way into Johnson's thoughts for the Fulham clash next weekend.

Eliasson took to Twitter after the Terriers clash to share his happiness with the result:

Eliasson's header was his first goal in 16 appearances for Johnson's side this campaign, but it should be noted the 23-year-old has now managed to register seven assists despite only starting four league matches since the start of the season.

The Verdict

Eliasson has been pushing for a regular starting place since he came off the bench to register an assists against Leeds on the opening day of the season, and his stand-out performance against Huddersfield provided a timely reminder of his qualities.

Bristol City were in need of a considerable lift following their midweek drubbing against the Baggies, and Eliasson proved to be the perfect man to provide just that, with his lively wing play and clinical threat in front of goal.

Johnson has a wide selection of options in midfield following the injury returns of Korey Smith and Adam Nagy, but it will now be difficult for the Robins boss to drop Eliasson following his excellent performance against Danny Cowley's side.
