Bristol City star provides message for fans following semi-final first leg

Bristol City are showing the footballing world exactly what they’re made of this season.

After knocking Manchester United out of the EFL Cup, they came ever so close to holding Premier League leaders Manchester City to a draw at the Etihad.

Lee Johnson has all the reason to be smiling after seeing his Bristol City side surpass expectations this season, as they look to contend for promotion to the Premier League, while offering up some giant killings on their way to the semi-final of the EFL Cup.

Indeed, the Robins were a minute away from securing a historic draw against Pep Guardiola’s side, before a last-gasp Sergio Aguero goal sucker punched the Championship outfit.

After producing countless opportunities to finish in last-night’s game, Bristol City fans would have been wishing that their prolific summer signing Famara Diedhiou could have had the chance fall to his feet.

But unfortunately for them, the six-goal man has been out since October with a grade 2 medial ligament injury in his knee, with him set to return sometime over the next couple of months.

Although, this didn’t stop the Senegalese international from supporting the Robins.

As he took to his personal Twitter account (@famara2001) to display his delight with City’s performance, and looked forward to a packed Ashton Gate in the return leg.

Indeed, with Bobby Reid having taken on the majority of the goal-scoring load since the striker’s injury, City would do anything to have the proven quality of Famara Diedhiou in their ranks for night’s like those at the Etihad.

The verdict

The striker has been a huge miss for the Bristol City side.

After leading the way with his 6 goals in October, the Senegalese forward will be gutted to have not gone on to add to his tally.

Arguably one of their most important player’s, had he stayed fit they could be sitting in that automatic promotion place at this moment in time.
