Bristol City defender Ashley Williams is the subject of transfer interest from Panathinaikos, Antalyaspor and DC United with his current deal set to expire in the summer, according to BBC reporter Dafydd Pritchard.

Williams has impressed since initially joining the Ashton Gate outfit on a short-term deal back in August, with the Wales international's excellent defensive performances earning him a fresh contract with the club until the end of the campaign.

The 35-year-old quickly established himself in Lee Johnson's side after joining the Robins following his release from Everton, with Williams having now made a total of 24 appearances at the heart of defence for the Championship's sixth-placed side.

It has now emerged that Williams' performances have seen him attract considerable transfer interest from abroad with Panathinaikos, Antalyaspor and DC United all thought to be interested in signing the defender on a pre-contract agreement.

However, Pritchard has also claimed that Williams is currently happy at Ashton Gate having consolidated his place in Johnson's plans, but the former Swansea man is set to consider his options when his current deal ends in the summer.

The Verdict

Williams has certainly exceeded expectations since signing a short-term deal at Bristol City towards the start of the campaign, with the defender having now become a key member of the Robins' promotion-chasing side.

The centre-back has struggled for form in recent seasons following his departure from Swansea, but he appears to have made himself at home at Ashton Gate and it would be no surprise to see him extend his deal beyond the current season.

There are bound to be other clubs interested in Williams' services given his current form, but the Welshman will surely want to focus on playing matters at the moment as he aims for promotion with Robins while also seeking a spot in Wales' Euro 2020 squad.

This will be a matter for Williams to re-consider in the summer, but Bristol City would surely look to offer him a new deal if his strong defensive showings continue.
