Bristol City look set to hold onto Nahki Wells despite some last minute interest from Cardiff, with Bristol World reporting that the Robins want to hold on to the striker.

The Bluebirds have been on the hunt for another forward despite bringing in Jordan Hugill on loan from Norwich. Their efforts to bring one in have seen them turn to the 31-year-old, who looked like he might be available.

The forward is well-experienced in the Championship, having featured in nearly 300 second tier games in total to date. It's this experience which could have aided Cardiff in their bid to try and steer clear of the drop, with the striker certainly proving previously that he knows where the back of the net is.

However, despite only managing five starts for Bristol City so far this year, it looks like the side still want to keep hold of him and use him as an option going forward.

He's struggled to reach the same heights in front of goal for the Robins so far this campaign, managing just one goal. That though, could come down to the fact he has also managed only 8.6 lots of 90 minutes in the league this year too.

Despite not being a first-team regular though, Cardiff have seen their loan bid for the player rejected and it looks like could stay at Ashton Gate with the transfer deadline looming.

With this latest rebuffal from Nigel Pearson, it looks then like his future may not lie elsewhere for the remainder of the season and he could instead play his part in trying to steer Bristol City up the division.

The Verdict

Nahki Wells may not have had a stellar campaign so far but that could arguably come down to a lack of regular playing time for the striker.

He has 20 appearances in the league so far but has only 8.6 lots of 90 minutes, which isn't a lot to work off considering the amount of games that the Robins have played so far. Wells though knows what it takes to cut it at this level and given more time on the pitch, he could certainly fire in the goals.

Cardiff have already added Jordan Hugill, who had a goalscoring start to life as a Bluebird. However, it looks like they still want to add another forward to their ranks and Wells could have been a good fit for the Welsh outfit, with him seemingly out of favour.

However, Nigel Pearson clearly has plans for him and if he can utilise him well alongside Andreas Weimann and Chris Martin, then he could certainly chip in with more goals in the second half of the season.
