Speaking to BBC Points West, Bristol City’s majority shareholder, Steve Lansdown, has been discussing the transfer speculation surrounding Aden Flint, slapping a £10m price tag on the defender.

Birmingham City are actively pursuing a deal for Flint, but the Robins have stood firm over the 28-year-old, rejecting the advance of their Sky Bet Championship rivals.

Flint has been sensational for Bristol over the last two seasons in the Championship, featuring in 90 of 92 league fixtures, helping the club avoid relegation on two occasions.

The defender still has three-years remaining on his contract at Ashton Gate, and Lansdown has insisted that it would take an eye-watering fee for Bristol to consider a sale, he said:

“The prices for players at the moment are high. So we'd expect a high price if he (Aden Flint) goes, I’d take £10m.”

Flint is not the only Bristol defender attracting interest from Birmingham, with their bid to sign the 28-year-old part of a double swoop to sign Joe Bryan as well.

Lee Johnson described the bid as derisory, and Lansdown again delivered a positive message on the 23-year-old’s future, he continued: “For Joe Bryan it would be a bit different. Joe's a younger player. You know, if Joe was going to go anywhere it would have to be the Premier League."

Bryan is perhaps more in-demand than Flint this summer, with Leeds United and Fulham also two clubs reportedly interested in signing the left-back between now and the end of the transfer window.

Both Flint and Bryan are expected to be in Johnson’s squad to face Barnsley later today.

The Verdict

£10m for Flint is an astronomical asking price and it is highly unlikely that Birmingham will meet Bristol’s demands for the defender.

Both Flint and Bryan are vital for Bristol City and Lee Johnson heading into the new season, and after key departures earlier this summer, their desire to keep hold of the duo is understandable.

Whilst we do not expect anyone to match Flint’s £10m price tag, Championship clubs could test Bristol with a bid for Bryan, who has a bright future ahead of him.
