Aden Flint has been one of the stand-out defender in the Championship in the last couple of seasons, attracting interest from other clubs.

The 28-year-old has made over 160 league starts for the Robins since arriving from Swindon in 2013, helping the club gain promotion from League One and survive in the second tier.

Flint is reported to be the subject of interest from both Birmingham and Norwich, who are expected to make bids for the centre back today.

Speculation surrounding Flint's future has been ongoing all summer, and the defender could well leave amid interest from two bigger clubs.

If Flint does depart Ashton Gate, Bristol City will not have much time to bring in a replacement.

Someone they could look at signing is Derby fringe player Jason Shackell, who has had limited game time at Pride Park in the last 12 months.

Shackell's only outing this season came in the Rams' Carabao Cup first round win over Grimsby, which is the only time the defender has turned out for Derby since Gary Rowett was appointed as manager.

The 33-year-old is out of favour at Derby, but is a vastly experienced defender and could still do a job in the second tier if given regular game time.

Bristol City don't have a great deal of time left this summer to bring in players, but Derby are eager to offload dead weight from their squad in order to free up squad space and lower the wage bill.

So, Jason Shackell switching Pride Park for Ashton Gate could be an ideal move for all parties.
