Despite their highest league finish in eight seasons, Bristol City missed out on a spot in the play-offs and eventually finishing 11th in the Championship table.

While the journey is just beginning for Lee Johnson and his men, you can’t help think that this season was a good a chance as ever for the Robins to make it to England’s top flight. The Reds' boss will certainly be looking to bring in reinforcements across the field this summer, to push on and go again next season at Ashton Gate.

Bristol City conceded a hefty 58 goals in the league alone in their 46 games, the highest tally of all the top 11 teams, which might go some way to explain why the Robins tailed off towards the end of the campaign.

The Robins weren’t short of scoring goals this season, however, scoring an impressive 67 times, a feat only bettered by the top six, mainly thanks to their star forward Bobby Reid.

The Bristol City graduate enjoyed his more advanced role this season, after converting from a midfielder to an out and out striker last season, ending this campaign with 19 goals and seven assists, placing the young Englishman third in the Championship golden boot race, behind Derby County’s Matej Vydra and Aston Villa’s Lewis Grabban.

But with a goal scoring record like that, Reid is bound to draw the attention from the bigger clubs of English football, and who else to target as a replacement that former front man loanee Tammy Abraham.

Abraham had a disappointing campaign on loan at Swansea City this season, netting just eight times in his 41 appearances. But, the 20-year-old gained valuable experience away from Stamford Bridge, despite his eventual relegation at the Liberty Stadium.

The Englishman started off well for the Welsh outlet, scoring five goals in his first ten matches in all competitions, and was even rewarded with an international call up to Gareth Southgate’s side in friendly matches against Brazil and Germany, in which he featured in both.

The young forward ended his loan spell at Aston Gate with a goal tally of 23, and winning the Bristol City Player of the season award for the 2016/17 season.

The Robins already have a talented striker in Bobby Reid, but with speculation about his future growing, perhaps bringing in their former talisman could be the wise decision, and maybe enough to mount another promotion charge for Lee Johnson’s side.
