Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City are set to reignite interest in Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga in the summer, according to reports from Bristol Live.

The Robins were linked with an ambitious move to sign the 26-year old in the closing stages of the January transfer window, and Lee Johnson's men could be set to chase the number nine once again.

The striker, who has netted 12 times in 37 games for Tony Pulis' Middlesbrough this season, has endured a turbulent time in the North East following his move from the City Ground a couple of years ago.

So, the Robins could be tempted to move for the player providing that they are a Championship club next season, with Johnson's men in the mix for the play-offs right now.

Assombalonga has been a clinical goalscorer in the Championship over the last few years, although injuries have really halted the former Peterborough striker's progress.

City currently sit 9th in the Sky Bet Championship table, after going five league games without a win.

The Verdict

This is really positive news for City, as on his day, Assombalonga is one of the best strikers in the league.

He may have scored plenty of goals for Boro this term, but has come under criticism by a minority of the Riverside faithful this term.

I don't think Pulis' style of play suits him at all, and he would flourish under Lee Johnson at Ashton Gate and they are desperate for a reliable striker, which would transform this team.
