Danny Simpson's new contract with Bristol City is expected to be confirmed next week, according to a recent report from Bristol Live.

Simpson signed for the Robins back in March 2021 on a short-term deal, and went on to make four appearances for Nigel Pearson's side, as they finished 19th in the Championship table.

The experienced full-back is a player that Pearson will know well, having worked together whilst at Leicester City earlier in their careers.

Simpson has experience of playing in the Championship in the past, having also played for Huddersfield Town not so long ago, in a brief spell at the John Smith's Stadium.

Bristol City endured a frustrating league campaign last term, with the Robins previously being in contention to challenge for a top six finish after a positive start to the season, but a poor run of results in the second half of the year saw them drop down the second tier standings at an alarming rate.

The Ashton Gate faithful will be hoping that they can see their side challenging for a play-off spot next term under Pearson's management.

It seems as though Simpson will be playing his part for the Robins next season, with the defender posting his fitness work at Long Ashton David Lloyd gym recently.

The Verdict:

This will be pleasing to hear.

Simpson was a solid option to have for Nigel Pearson's side in the second half of the 2020/21 season, and you would imagine that it will have been a no-brainer for the Robins to tie him down to a new contract this summer.

He's a player that Pearson knows well, having worked with him whilst the pair were at Leicester City earlier in their careers, so you have to trust the Bristol City boss' judgement with this one.

He'll know how to get the best out of Simpson, and the defender's experience will certainly come in handy for the Robins heading into the new league campaign, which gets underway in August.
