Bristol City are preparing to sell Aden Flint this summer, with the defender attracting interest from a host of Sky Bet Championship clubs, according to the Mirror’s live blog (31/7, 14:19).

Leeds United and Birmingham City are two of Bristol’s Championship rivals looking to sign Flint this summer, with both clubs reportedly offering the defender a lucrative pay-rise.

Flint has been at Ashton Gate since the summer of 2013, and has gone on to make 200 appearances for the Robins, including 90 over the last two Championship seasons.

Lee Johnson confirmed that Bristol had not received any offers for the player last month, but there is reported interest from Leeds and Birmingham, who are preparing their squads for a promotion push next season.

The Robins are now ready to cash in on their towering central-defender, after they secured the service of Aston Villa’s Nathan Baker on a four-year contract last week.

Flint is not the only Bristol defender attracting interest from across the Championship, with Joe Bryan also on the radar of a number of clubs.

Reports yesterday suggested that the left-back was in-demand this summer, with Leeds and Fulham keen to offer the 23-year-old a route out of Ashton Gate, but Bristol have knocked back a number of enquiries already.

Bristol begin their Championship campaign this weekend, when they face Barnsley at Ashton Gate.

The Verdict

Flint’s future has been well speculated this summer, and the arrival of Baker has triggered more speculation.

Despite Bristol fans dreaming of a partnership of Baker and Flint, the likelihood is that the former’s arrival will see Flint leave Ashton Gate after four impressive years.

Flint is still contracted at Ashton Gate until 2020, which means should the defender leave Bristol this summer, the club will be able to demand a competitive transfer-fee for the 28-year-old.
