Bristol City are preparing themselves for a big payout due to one of their former players reaching the Premier League.

Luke Freeman left The Robins to join QPR in January 2017 after the player's contract was close to expiring.

Bristol City managed to receive a reported £500,000 for the winger, according to Bristol Live.

However, the club look like they may recuperate even more money than that original fee, as Bristol Live understands a sell-on clause of 15 per cent on any profit made was included within the transfer fee.

Freeman joined Sheffield United today on a three-year deal for an 'undisclosed fee', however, the reported fee by talkSPORT is around £5million.

That means that Bristol City will be entitled to 15 per cent of the £4.5million profit - if that rumoured sum is to be true.

Altogether, that means that City could be getting a healthy £675,000 for the sale of Luke Freeman. Not a bad buffer for a player who left the club with six months left on his deal.

The Verdict

After Luke Freeman left for a cheap fee then this will be a nice little bonus for Bristol City and will help fund some of their own business they've been conducting over the course of this summer.

It doesn't look like a huge amount, but the Robins have long forgotten their former playmaker, so you can't argue that the cash injection is a positive thing for them.

Money is money and Bristol City's clause has been worth it.
