Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has strengthened his squad with the signing of former Barcelona B striker Rodri on a short-term contract until January, it has been confirmed on the club website.

The Robins have signed the former Spain U21 on a free-transfer, following his departure from Spanish side Granada earlier in the summer, with them also having the option to keep the 29-year-old until the end of the season.

Lee Johnson told the club website: "We want to play with two strikers as much as possible and therefore we need four strikers as an option," adding "While this is an initial short-term arrangement, we hope it works out for him and ourselves in the long term."

With these comments in mind, do you feel Rodri will be a frequent starter for the Robins?

We discuss..........

Luke Phelps

"I think Rodri will be given the starts that he wants at Bristol City - Lee Johnson has been after a striker since Benik Afobe’s injury, and he’ll be keen to get him up to match fitness.

"Playing is the best way of getting that match fitness, and Rodri may make his Robins debut against Luton Town at the weekend.

"Contending with both Famara Diedhiou and Andreas Weimann though will be a tall order for Rodri, who has only played a handful of games in England after an uninspiring spell with Sheffield Wednesday in 2012.

"He’s likely to get a chance at Ashton Gate, but I really don't think he’ll be a good signing for the club. I hope he can prove myself and many doubters wrong, but I can only see Rodri moving back to Spain when his short-term contract isn't renewed."

Ned Holmes

"This is a really difficult one as Johnson has been chop and changing his forward line since Afobe's injury.

"You'd imagine that the Spaniard has been brought into play and play regularly and that he is going to need a significant amount of time on the pitch to really get a feel for English football.

"Neither Famara Diedhiou or Antoine Semenyo have done enough to suggest that they should be starting every week for the Robins, so depending on the formation there is a space for Rodri.

"I think we'll see him upfront regularly alongside Andreas Weimann."

Chris Thorpe

"I think this is a smart signing by Lee Johnson, however I do not expect Rodri to start games for at least a few weeks, as he needs to improve his match fitness after being a free agent for so long.

"Considering he has been without a club for so long, it will be interesting to see how fit the 29-year-old is at the moment, it may be wise for Johns0on to give him a run out for the under 23s.

"I think he provides an extra dimension to their play, as it gives Johnson more of an opportunity to start with two strikers up front more often, which is likely to also please the fans.

"Only time will tell if Rodri will be a success at Ashton Gate, however the deal is relatively low risk as he only has a contract until January, meaning there is also only a short window for the striker to prove himself worthy of an extension."
