Bristol City: Remember Liam Fontaine? Here’s what he’s up to nowawdays

Though it’s been seven years since his departure, most Bristol City fans will likely still think fondly of Liam Fontaine.

The central defender was an excellent servant to the club – notching up nearly 300 appearances for the Robins across eight years at Ashton Gate.

Fontaine was a part of the side that won promotion back to the Championship in 2006/07 and then reached the play-off final the following year.

Had things gone a little differently that day at Wembley, we’d be talking about a player with a place in club folklore.

The centre-back is 35 now but still plying his trade with Dundee, having enjoyed a fair bit of success in north of the border since his Ashton Gate departure in 2014.

Fontaine’s first stop in Scottish football was with Hibs, helping them win promotion back to the top flight and end their long wait for silverware with a victory in the 2016 Scottish Cup final.

After four years in Edinburgh, he joined Ross County and helped them secure promotion from the Scottish Championship in the 2019/20 campaign before moving on in October 2020.

30 questions about some of Bristol City’s best ever players – Can you score 100% correct?

1. Did Louis Carey ever win a trophy with Bristol City?

Joining Dundee has brought yet more success as the experienced defender was part of the side that won promotion via the play-offs last term.

He signed a new one-year deal back in May but has fallen out of favour over the past month or so, with his only recent appearances coming in the Scottish Cup.

Dundee are one place off the bottom of the SPFL table as things stand and will likely need to call on the experience of Fontaine during their battle for survival.
