Bristol City have been dealt a disappointing blow, with Tomas Kalas facing six weeks on the sidelines after fracturing his jaw.

Kalas was a summer signing from Chelsea, with the defender joining the Robins on a season-long loan.

The 25-year-old has made five appearances in the Championship so far this season, contributing to Bristol City’s strong start.

However, he lasted 76 minutes of Friday’s clash with Wigan Athletic, before he picked up his jaw injury.

Bristol City took to their official website yesterday to confirm a double fracture to the jaw following Kalas’ operation.

Now, the Robins are expected to be without the talented defender for six weeks.

Lee Johnson watched his side lose on Friday night against Wigan, with the Robins slipping to eighth in the Championship table.

With no League Cup action this week, attention will be turning to Friday night, with Bristol City back at Ashton Gate and welcoming Aston Villa.

Villa are a point behind the Robins after nine fixtures, with Steve Bruce’s side also looking to bounce back following a defeat last weekend.

The Verdict

Kalas’ absence in the next six weeks is going to be a huge blow for Bristol City.

Of course, Johnson does have other options that he could turn to, but Kalas is a special talent, who at Championship level, is a very good defender.

There’s no doubt he will be missed.
