According to The Bristol Post, Hordur Magnusson will be leaving Bristol City this summer.

CSKA Moscow are close to completing a deal to sign Magnusson for €2.5m.

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson wanted to keep Magnusson at Ashton Gate for next season but he has been convinced to accept this offer to bring money into the club and allow the player a shot at European football.

The Iceland international, who is expected to feature for his country at the World Cup in Russia, will sign a four-year deal with the Russian Premier League giants.

The former Juventus defender is set to end a two-year spell with the Robins after joining from the Italian giants in summer 2016.

The 25-year-old has impressed in his 52 appearances for the club, operating as either a centre-half or as a left-back.

But with just one year left to run on his current contract, Bristol City are now ready to cash in and let the player leave.

With Joe Bryan also expected to leave, Bristol City will be looking at new left-back targets this summer.

CSKA Moscow have already qualified for next season's Champions League group stages after finishing second in Russia's top flight.

The Verdict

Magnusson has been a good servant for Bristol City and his versatility makes him a useful squad option.

But at €2.5m, it is a no-brainer for the Robins to cash in rather than let him leave for free next summer or go for cheap in January.

And the 6ft 3in defender will be able to compete at a high level in the Russian top division and the Champions League.
