Bristol City are believed to have completed the permanent signing of centre-back Tomas Kalas after his successful loan spell at Ashton Gate last season.

The Czech Republic international played 38 games for Lee Johnson's side in the previous campaign as they just missed out on the play-offs and impressed with his defensive ability and composure, forming a very strong partnership with Adam Webster.

Therefore, bringing him back to the club was a priority for the Robins, although it was always going to be difficult with Celtic and Rangers among those also thought to be interested.

However, Bristol Live have revealed that a deal for the 26-year-old has been agreed and will be confirmed tomorrow, with the centre-back becoming the highest paid player at the club.

Providing this does go through it will be the second arrival from Chelsea in the space of a few days after the Championship side confirmed that they had signed left-sider Jay Dasilva yesterday. He too had enjoyed a productive loan spell at the club last season.

The Verdict

What a fantastic signing this will be for Bristol City and it will be a real statement of intent from the club ahead of the new season.

Kalas has proven himself to be a quality operator in the second-tier and clearly fits in well at Ashton Gate judging by his displays over the past 12 months.

So, it would be a great bit of business and providing they can keep hold of fellow centre-back Webster then you could argue they have one of the best pairings outside the top-flight.

This will delight the fans and they will be hoping it's all announced tomorrow.
