Four wins from their final six fixtures of the Sky Bet Championship season was enough to secure another year in the second-tier for Bristol City, with the under pressure Lee Johnson silencing his critics and guiding the Robins to safety.

One player who was vital in helping Bristol City survive the Championship drop this season was Tammy Abraham, with the on-loan Chelsea striker scoring 23 league goals and 26 across all competitions.

It is highly unlikely that the 19-year old will return to Ashton Gate next season, with Chelsea keen for Abraham to gain some Premier League experience before handing him an opportunity at Stamford Bridge.

Abraham must be replaced by Bristol this summer, otherwise Johnson’s side will certainly find themselves in a relegation battle this time next year.

The Robins have been linked with a move for Exeter City’s Ollie Watkins, but face competition from Leeds United, who are also keen to add the striker to their squad ahead of next season.

Watkins has scored 14 goals for Exeter in League Two this season, helping the club to the play-offs, where they stand a good chance of securing promotion to League One.

The Exeter man is raw, and at just 21, still has a lot to add to his game. However, as Abraham has shown this season – age is just a number.

Bristol would undoubtedly offer Watkins more opportunities than Leeds, with the 21-year old unlikely to dislodge Chris Wood for the Whites’ starting line-up.

With one natural goalscorer departing Ashton Gate already this summer, Johnson must prioritise the signing of Watkins in the coming months to strengthen the Robins ahead of next season.
