After transitioning from a midfielder to a front man this season, Bobby Reid has hit the ground running in the Championship, finishing the campaign with 19 goals, the third highest in the league behind Derby County’s Matej Vydra and Aston Villa’s Lewis Grabban.

The Bristol City striker could only guide his team to an eleventh place finish in the Championship this season, eight points below the play-off places.

The Robins were strong promotion contenders throughout the season, after a strong start to the campaign, but slipped away at the end when it mattered most.

Nonetheless, the 25-year-old was selected in the PFA’s Championship team of the season for his impressive work for Lee Johnson’s side.

Reid’s future at Ashton Gate has already received much speculation, and the young forward has already been linked with a move to the Premier League, with AFC Bournemouth lining up a potential move this summer, according to a report by the Bristol Post.

The Bristol-born man broke into the first team two seasons ago after three spells on loan at Plymouth Argyle, and has netted 26 goals in his 135 appearances for the Reds to date, with the majority of them coming this season.

Without the striker on the pitch, Bristol’s attacking threats are limited. The games Reid hasn’t played this season has seen Lee Johnson’s side look far less likely to find the back of the net, making it vital they hold on to their talisman this summer.

After what was an impressive start to the season, Bristol City will be hoping they can find for again in the beginning of next year’s campaign, and perhaps push for a play-off place or even an automatic promotion spot.

Reports in the past have suggested that various Premier League sides have been interested in Reid, with Burnley, Leicester City and Brighton and Hove Albion as the front runners, thus showing he has what it takes to make it in England’s top flight.

Lee Johnson will need to try his very best not to lose Reid this summer, if the Robins are to challenge for promotion next season.
