Bristol City have taken an interest in young 19-year-old Motherwell striker James Scott at the start of the January transfer market, according to the Daily Record.

The striker, who has also been capped for the Scotland under-21 team, has netted seven goals in 30 games across all competitions this season.

Reports state that the Motherwell man has been tracked by the Robins across the past year, but their interest has really stepped up in the past six weeks as they look to tie down a much-wanted target.

The Robins have been looking for a striker since Benik Afobe ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in September and ruled him out for the season.

Manager Lee Johnson did bring in Spaniard and former Sheffield Wednesday striker Rodri on a short-term contract until January 15th, but the forward looks set to depart next week having failed to impress during his limited chances at Ashton Gate.

Scott isn't the only striker that City have been linked with lately, as Slovan Bratislava striker Andraz Sporar has been tipped with a move to Bristol.

The club are also seeking to loan out Antoine Semenyo and Sammie Smzodics this month.

The Verdict

Scott is a striker who has a lot of potential, and is the type of forward that Bristol City should be targeting.

It would allow added competition for Famara Diedhiou and Andreas Weimann, who will need to step up their game if they wanted to remain within the starting lineup at Ashton Gate.

If Scott was brought to the club, it would allow Lee Johnson and his staff the opportunity to mould Scott into one of their players and make sure that they suited his game style.
