Reported by Bristol Live, Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has revealed that the club are weighing up the option of sending young striker Antoine Semenyo out on loan in January.

The 19-year-old has made nine appearances for the Robins this season and is yet to find the net, regularly being sat on the bench at Bristol City as the side's 'club-developed player'.

Every club in the Championship requires a player who has been 'club-developed' in the matchday squad. This quota is met by a player having been registered for a year with the club before the end of their under-19 season.

When asked if Semenyo could be heading out on loan, Johnson said: "Yeah, yeah.

"It's not rocket science. You're playing regular in the squad, you're not going anywhere, unless it's for megabucks.

"If you're not in the squad and you haven't been making benches and stuff like that, then everyone wants to play football even if players have got Bristol City tattooed on their arm.

"They still want to be playing football."

The youngster, who turns 20 next month, scored three goals in 14 games while on loan with Bath City in 2017-2018, and he scored six goals in 32 games while on loan with League Two side Newport County last campaign.

The youngster signed a new four-year deal in the summer, tying him down to 2023 at the very latest.

Bristol City would then have a choice to make if Semenyo was to leave on loan, with the likes of Joe Morrell, Max O'Leary and Zak Vyner all playing well away from Ashton Gate, who could return to fill the 'club-developed' player role.

The Verdict

Semenyo is a talented striker who can change a game in the Championship when coming off the bench, but he could do with some regular football to help his development.

A loan to League One would help the striker prepare himself for Championship football on a more regular basis, and he would be a good loan option for a club one or two levels below in the pyramid.
