Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has admitted that he made a mistake in allowing right back Luke Ayling to join Leeds United.

In a report by the Sun, Saturday 21st October print edition, the former Barnsley manager made the admission that he perhaps should have kept hold of the former Yeovil defender in hindsight, admitting his side had 'been found wanting' on that one, and that 'you probably couldn't argue' the point either.

Johnson though did comment that selling Ayling allowed the club to bring in Tammy Abraham on loan last term, where the Chelsea striker proved a huge success when he banged in over 20 goals in a stunning debut campaign in the Championship.

Bristol City have gotten off to an excellent start this year in the second tier, surprising many by sitting pretty in the playoff spots and only three points off the automatic promtion places.

Coincidentally, Bristol take on Leeds today at Ashton Gate, where they will be hoping to further cement their excellent start and solidify a position in the top six.

The Verdict

There's no denying it, letting Ayling leave has turned out to be a blow, as he's now established as one of the finest fullbacks in the league.

However, Bristol have been excellent this season and Johnson appears to be finally getting things right in the South West.

Robins fans, what do you think? Would you have let him go? Let us know in the comments!
