Bristol City defender Zak Vyner is a loan target for Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen, Bristol Live have reported.

A versatile defender, who can play either right-back or centre back, Vyner spent last season on loan at Rotherham United, making 34 appearances in all competitions for The Millers as they were relegated to League One after just a single season in the Championship.

It now looks as though Vyner could be set for another temporary move away from Ashton Gate, with all parties reportedly happy for the move to take place.

According to reports, Aberdeen are keen to have Vyner as part of their squad for the first leg of their Europa League qualifying tie with Rijeka, which takes place in Croatia on Thursday.

A graduate of Bristol City's academy, Vyner has made 13 appearances for the Robins' senior side, and has two years remaining on his current contract at Ashton Gate.

It has been reported recently that Bristol City are interested in signing Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna, who has already been the subject of bids from Nottingham Forest and QPR this summer.

The Verdict

This is a deal that has the potential to suit all parties.

If Vyner is set to head to Aberdeen on loan, then you imagine it will see him enjoy more game time than he probably would at Ashton Gate, allowing him to develop his game further ahead of a return to Bristol City further down the line.

That in itself would suit The Robins, allowing them to reap the benefits of an improved player further down the line, while Aberdeen are given the chance to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.

You also feel that a successful round of negotiations here could help Bristol City in their pursuit of Aberdeen's Scott McKenna, something which could prove useful, given they have yet to replace Adam Webster following his departure for Brighton.
