In an interview with Bristol Live, injured Bristol City midfielder Korey Smith has spoken about the injury nightmare he has endured over recent times.

Smith hasn't featured for the Robins since April after breaking two bones in his foot and tearing a ligament during the Championship game with Reading, and has played just 237 minutes of first-team football since the start of last season, having also had knee surgery at the start of the 2018-2019 season.

Smith said "There is no point moping about and being sad. When it happened, I was absolutely gutted and I was crying - it wasn't nice. But you can't stay like that or you can't move forward.

So you have to try and take those little achievements every day, in the gym, doing what you can and getting fitter on the bike and the ropes; getting fitter and getting stronger."

Smith is looking for a return to action before Christmas and if he can return to full fitness after a very recent return to running on the grass, then he will give Lee Johnson a more illustrious central midfield options as he'll join the likes of Adam Nagy, Kasey Palmer, Josh Brownhill and Han-Noah Massengo in that midfield department.

The Verdict:

Smith is a talented midfielder whose goal against Manchester United will forever live long in the memory of Robins fans and being the longest-serving member of this Bristol City squad, he'll be eager to add his experience and nous to the centre of the park with the likes of Massengo and Brownhill playing around him.

City fans will also be excited to see a cult hero return to playing in a Bristol City shirt.
