Bristol City defender Jay Dasilva has revealed that he has been in contact with highly sought after Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah amid speculation of a move to Ashton Gate.

Nketiah spent the first-half of the season on loan with Leeds United but after limited game time, was recalled by the Gunners with another loan this month looking likely, with Bristol City and Nottingham Forest set to battle it out.

But although Dasilva says he has spoken to the striker, he admits that transfers have not been on the agenda, although admits he'd like to see him brought in.

"Not about the transfer, no, I try and stay away from all that," he told his pre-match press conference when asked what they have discussed, reported by Bristol Live.

QUIZ: Can you name every Bristol City player’s shirt number?

"I haven't spoken to him about it.

"He's a good player, I like him, he's a friend of mine."

City are eager to bolster their attacking options with Johnson's side losing five of their last six league games, plunging them out of the play-offs and down into 11th as a result.

Next up for the Robins is a tricky trip to Wigan Athletic and, with the pressure growing on the management team, they will know that nothing other than a win will suffice for the fans.

The verdict

I don't think there is too much to read into this, although I am sure having Dasilva around would be an appealling factor for Nketiah when it comes to making his mind up.

Bristol City badly need a striking reinforcement so I would be surprised if they do not do all they can to persuade the youngster to pick them.
