Bristol City skipper Josh Brownhill took to Instagram after his side’s 1-0 win at Cardiff City yesterday, which keeps them in 6th going into the international break.

The first Severnside derby of the season at the Cardiff City Stadium yesterday was a relatively underwhelming one.

Both teams could’ve won it on the day, but a win for Lee Johnson’s Robins was probably fair.

It took until the 67th-minute for the deadlock to be broken though, when Josh Brownhill cut inside onto his right foot, and picked out the top-right corner of Neil Etheridge’s goal for his third of the season.

All three of Browhill’s goals this season have proven to be winning goals (v Derby County in August, and v Charlton Athletic last month). After the game, Brownhill posted this message on Instagram:

He and his manager would've been relieved with the win, which secures their top-six spot going into the two-week break and also gives them a two-pint buffer to Fulham in 7th.

The verdict

Bristol City weren’t amazing in South Wales yesterday, but they went there and did the job, took the points and can rest easy over the next couple of weeks.

Fixtures come thick and fast after the season’s resume - City face Forest, West Brom and Huddersfield in the space of a week at the end of this month.

Yesterday’s win will relieve some of the pressure on the coming fixtures, but they’ll be a good test for Johnson’s side who need to take points off the teams around them if they’re to be real play-off contenders this season.
