Bristol City still have a chance to reach the playoffs despite a recent drop off in form, Robins defender Lloyd Kelly has claimed.

Lee Johnson's side haven't won in their last five league games, a run which has seen them fall from sixth to ninth in the Championship table, though they remain just two points off the playoff places.

Speaking to The Bristol Post, Kelly said: "Overall it's been a good season although obviously, the past few games haven't gone our way. Obviously, that hasn't stopped any belief or ambition of where we want to be: in the play-off spots.

"I still believe we'll make it."

This season has seen Kelly himself become more of a regular started in The Robins lineup, with his performances earning him a call up to the England U21 side, and reflecting on his own season, the 20 year old added: "I think my season is going quite well.

"If you asked me at the start of the season I probably would have said that I'll take this season that I'm having at the moment. Some 27 games for Bristol City and obviously getting a call-up to the England U21 squad is quite a good achievement and I just want to keep pushing."

In recent weeks Kelly has found himself in competition with Chelsea loanee Jay DaSilva for the left back spot, but when asked about whether DaSilva could be back at Ashton Gate next season, Kelly claimed:

"You never know what his [Jay's] plans are longer term and where he sees himself playing.

"All I can say is that he's enjoying himself playing at Bristol City at the moment. Me and him have loads of discussions on how things are going and he always says how he's enjoying it."

The verdict

The incredibly tight nature of the middle of the Championship table, combined with that outstanding run of Bristol City's, mean that Lee Johnson's side are still in the hunt from the playoffs.

They know from experience how quickly form can swing and must be ready to take advantage should that happen to someone else.
