Championship playoff hopefuls Bristol City are looking into signing Sunderland striker Josh Maja.

According to Bristol Live, the Robins are looking to swoop for the 10 goal striker in January, as manager Lee Johnson looks to strengthen his squad going into the second half of the season.

And Maja looks to have been identified as a key signing by Johnson, with the 19-year-old delivering some seriously impressive performances for the Black Cats this season as they chase an immediate return to the Championship.

The youngster has fired in the goals this season for Jack Ross' men, leading the line with aplomb after being tasked by manager Ross with being the main man at the top end of the pitch.

Maja has developed quite the reputation for himself at the Stadium of Light, and it's looking increasingly likely that the young forward will be attracting plenty of interest come the January transfer window, with the Robins seemingly hoping be at the head of the queue.

The Sunderland man is out of contract this summer and that could well spark a war for his signature over the next six months.

The verdict

This would be a superb signing, but there is likely to be a massive clamour for Maja's signature when it comes to the crunch.

His form has been superb though, and he looks like he is going to be some player if he carries on. If the Robins can snap him up, then they will have pulled off quite the coup.
