Bristol City looking to add Swedish international to bolster defensive ranks

Joel Ekstrand could finally make his move to Bristol City after defender Derrick Williams joined Blackburn Rovers, according to the Bristol Post.

The Bristol Post broke the news that Williams could be set for the exit door with Blackburn ready to swoop and Blackburn confirmed the move this morning.

With Shane Duffy leaving for Brighton, Blackburn have captured Williams and Watford defender Tommie Hoban as replacements and this could mean that Lee Johnson has to sign another centre back.

Bristol City would have three recognised centre backs on their books in Aden Flint, Hordur Magnusson and new arrival Taylor Moore. Joel Ekstrand has been training with the club in an attempt to earn himself a contract, with Johnson yet to make a decision on the 27-year-old.

The Sweden international was an integral part of the Watford side that won promotion back to the Premier League two seasons ago, but did not feature at all for the Hornets last season due to a severe injury.

Lee Johnson will not be rushed into a decision, however, as Ekstrand is available as a free agent and can therefore join after the transfer window shuts.

Bristol City fans – what do you think? Would Ekstrand be a good replacement for Williams? If he joins who should be your starting centre back pair? Let us know in the comments below…
