According to reliable football journalist Alan Nixon, Bristol City are eyeing Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Jak Alnwick as their senior option on loan.

Alnwick's potential arrival at Ashton Gate could result in a loan spell for young goalkeeper Max O'Leary, who is a target for League Two new boys Macclesfield Town.

Nixon tweeted the news story, saying: "BRISTOL CITY. Looking into a loan for keeper Alnwick at RANGERS. Want a senior option. Young O'Leary fancied by lower league sides for loan. MACCLESFIELD been asking."

Alnwick, formerly of Newcastle United and Port Vale, is in his third season with Rangers but has only played 11 games for the club.

The 25-year-old could move to Bristol City if Rangers sanction the deal, and they currently have Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham on their books.

O'Leary could leave on loan if Alnwick arrives.

The 21-year-old helped keep Solihull Moors up in the National League last season and could now be given his chance in the Football League.

The Verdict

Alnwick would be a good addition for the Robins, who probably need more competition between the sticks.

The former England youth international was exceptional for Port Vale and he is knocking on the door at Rangers.

A loan move definitely works for O'Leary as well, who is a talented young stopper but he needs first-team experience.
