According to Wales Online, Championship outfit Bristol City lead a host of their divisional rivals in the race to land Swansea City goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt.

The report also claims that Mark Warburton's Nottingham Forest, who survived relegation to League 1 on the final day of last season, have also firmed up their interest in the 28-year-old keeper, as they set about clawing themselves away from the wrong end of the table in the second tier.

The report also goes on to say that Lee Johnson and Warburton are not the only second tier managers with an interest in securing the Swede's signature on a short term basis, but they are at the head of the queue, due to the more decisive nature of their swoops.

The Swans, themselves trying to engineer a season where they are not struggling at the foot of the table, have signed Dutch goalkeeper Erwin Mulder, who is expected to start the season as second choice for the Welsh side, which may open the door for Nordfeldt to gain regular football - something the Swedish international has stated he is keen on, with the World Cup in Russia approaching at the end of the forthcoming season.

“If the coach continues to continue to play Fabianski then there is a small opening that I could get to go away on loan. I am aware that the situation in Swansea is not optimal to be here in the national team." explained the goalkeeper.

The Verdict:

An international keeper, who is trying to impress his country's manager ahead of a World Cup could prove to be a major coup for either Bristol City or Nottingham Forest, who are both looking to improve on their campaigns from last season.

In Frank Fielding and Jordan Smith, both clubs have solid options between the sticks, but international and Premier League experience might convince either Johnson or Warburton to take the gamble - provided the deal is affordable - and push for an upgrade in goal.

Nortfeldt would be an upgrade on Fielding, especially, and with question marks over the future of key defenders Aden Flint and Joe Bryan, he would provide a much needed boost to the Robins' defensive options.
