Bristol City are keen on signing Dunfermiline defender Ryan Williamson, according to respected journalist Alan Nixon.

The Robins are keen to add to their squad once again in January and have reportedly targeted Williamson as the ideal signing for the club, with the 22-year-old impressing for the Scottish outfit this season.

An under-21 international, Williamson was a regular for Dunfermiline last term, making 36 appearances and making a big name for himself along the way.

However, with interest now from south of the border in the Championship, Williamson could well be tempted to make the move to England and prove himself at what many would consider to be a higher level to that which he already competes at.

Williamson is able to play across the back line and his versatility would no doubt be a big boost for Lee Johnson and the Robins, who are sitting in mid-table this season after struggling to get any sort of consistency in their game.

The Robins lost out yesterday when they fell to defeat against Reading.

The verdict

Bristol do need some new faces if they are to compete for a playoff spot, but i'm no sure signing Williamson is the answer.

He might well have a bright future, which is a bonus, but as a signing to come in and make an immediate impact, Williamson would not appear to be that guy.
