Everton midfielder Joe Williams, who is currently on loan with Bolton Wanderers, has emerged as a target for Bristol City in the January window.

The youngster has been impressing for the Trotters and has become a regular for the Lancashire club, but now, according to Alan Nixon, Williams has emerged as a target for Lee Johnson and the Robins.

Williams impressed last season during a spell with Barnsley and was shipped out by the Toffees once more in the summer as they look to get first team experience under his belt.

The 22-year-old has been in good form during both of his loan spells in the Championship, but with Bolton's precarious financial situation, the Robins could be set to make their move for the midfielder as Lee Johnson looks to add some strength to his squad.

Williams has struggled to make n impression at Goodison Park and he will know deep down that the time might well be now to move on a permanent deal and get his career well and truly underway.

City have struggled to have an impact in the Championship this season and they currently sit in mid-table, some distance from making a run at the play-offs.

The Verdict

This would be a solid signing for Bristol if they could seal a deal for the youngster.

Williams has been superb for Bolton and played well for Barnsley last term, so there is no reason he wouldn't have a similar impact for the Robins.

An excellent piece of business if they can pull it off.
