Bristol City fear that Antoine Semenyo may miss the club’s pre-season following an injury sustained on international duty, according to Bristol Live.

The 22-year old was competing for Ghana, making his debut as a 76th minute substitute in a 3-0 win over Madagascar on June 1.

But his time with the Black Stars ended early due to a shin injury.

This has led to concerns with the Robins that the exciting player will miss the club’s pre-season preparations.

Initial reports suggested that Semenyo arrived back in England early to complete a transfer move away from the club, but that has been confirmed as false.

The worst-case scenario has been revealed as the forward missing the club’s pre-season just as he did 12 months ago with a knee injury.

It wasn’t until December 4 that Ghanaian made his first league start for Nigel Pearson’s side following a knee operation.

The City boss now fears that Semenyo could be left to play catch up once again, with the player having visited a specialist which has yet to confirm the length of his recovery.

It was a stellar campaign for the exciting young talent despite the late start, scoring eight goals and earning 12 assists as the club finished 17th in the Championship.

The Verdict

This is a big blow to Bristol City’s preparations for the upcoming campaign.

Semenyo is one of the team’s best players and his fitness will be crucial to the team’s success over the next 12 months.

Despite apparent transfer interest, he will be key to the team’s best performances this season so everyone will be hoping he can hit the ground running to start the campaign.

To pick up an injury during this lengthy international break is only going to add to the frustration as unnecessary fixture congestion clogs up the football calendar.
