Bristol City interested in signing out-of-favour Championship striker

Championship side Bristol City are interested in signing Fulham striker Matt Smith, according to the Bristol Post.

The 26-year-old joined the Whites from Leeds United on transfer deadline day in 2014, but has only made 27 appearances for the club since joining – often being ousted out the team by Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele.

Smith has only made two appearances for the club this season, and hence will probably want some first team football.

He signed for Bristol City on loan last season during the club’s League One promotion push, and scored 13 goals in 20 appearances, which saw him return to Fulham.

Bristol City wanted to bring him in permanently over the summer but Fulham were unwilling to strike a deal, but given his lack of showing for the team and the emergence of youngsters Moussa Dembele and Cauley Woodrow, they could be open to seeing him leave.

They’re also under a transfer embargo and could use the money to get out of it.

Fulham currently sit in 19th place in the Sky Bet Championship, after what has been an incredibly mediocre season for the London outfit.

Bristol fans… What do you make of this news? Is Smith a good signing? Were you impressed by him? Do you need more strikers? Let us know in the comments below!
