Bristol City remain locked in talks to do a deal for Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas, according to the Bristol Live's transfer blog (31/05, 18:15).

The 26-year-old was an important player for Bristol City last season, after joining on a season-long loan from Chelsea and made 38 appearances for the Robins in the Championship.

And, according to Bristol Live's transfer blog (31/05, 18:15), Lee Johnson is interested in signing the centre-back on a permanent deal and the club are likely to be able to afford him.

Kalas is not wanted at Chelsea and is thought to be interested in a permanent move to Ashton Gate, although he has also attracted interested from other clubs in the Championship.

However, the Robins will hope the Czech Republic internationals successful time with the club in the past year will give them an advantage when it comes to sealing the deal.

Bristol City finished eighth in the Championship last season, four points outside the play-offs and missed out on a place in the top six on the final day of the campaign.

The Verdict:

This would be a good signing for Bristol City. Kalas is a good defender and was an important player for the Robins in the Championship last season.

Bristol City are likely to face competition from other clubs to sign the defender, but they could have an edge over rival teams, as Kalas already knows the club well.

The defender is thought to have enjoyed his loan spell at Ashton Gate and perhaps he will favour a move to Bristol City over other teams in the Championship.
