Bristol City are one of a number of teams who are tracking Blackpool hot-shot Jerry Yates for a potential summer transfer move, according to BristolLive.
The Robins may need to replace a key figure at the end of the season, with Senegalese striker Famara Diedhiou’s contract expiring.
It would be a big blow to lose him for nothing having paid £5.3 million for him back in 2017, but BristolLive believe there has been no fresh efforts made to try and make him put pen-to-paper on an extension.
The club may now be looking elsewhere, and whilst he’s not a carbon-copy replacement, Yates seems to be on the radar.
Yates was linked to City weeks ago, along with Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers by Football Insider, who believe him to be rated at around £2 million by the Seasiders.
Are these 17 facts about Bristol City’s club badge true or false?
And his goals have certainly been crucial to the club charging into the League One play-off places – he’s scored 18 times in 36 outings this season and has netted six times in his last four matches (transfermarkt).
That is bound to attract attention of clubs in the league above, and if Blackpool don’t make it into the Championship next season then they may have to cash in on their star striker.
City are ‘aware’ of Yates according to BristolLive and that could mean a move is made come the summer, providing Nigel Pearson or whoever is manager is given the funds to spend.
It would be foolish if half the Championship weren’t watching Yates right now – he’s the form striker in the country and he does look like he can do it at the next level.
Of course we won’t know until he makes that step up, but how must Rotherham be feeling right now for basically giving him away to Blackpool in 2020?
If Diedhiou departs Ashton Gate this summer, then the club will definitely need a new striker to compete with Nahki Wells, Antoine Semenyo and Chris Martin, and Yates could be the man to fit the bill.
