Bristol City's play-off hopes may be dealt a significant blow after Andi Weimann suffered a foot injury in a clash with Aden Flint during Tuesday night's win at Middlesbrough.

The 27 year old, who hit a hat-trick in Saturday's 3-2 win over Sheffield United, picked up the knock when the pair came together at The Riverside during the week, with the Austrian set to receive results on a scan on the foot on Thursday.

Speaking about the striker's injury, Robins boss Lee Johnson told the Bristol Post: "It was the top of the foot. He was stamped on by our friend Flinty, not on purpose I must add - accidental."

Weimann and Flint didn't shared the pitch for Bristol City, with the forward having arrived in the summer from Derby, at the point when Flint departed the club to make his move to Teesside.

The Robins are back in action this weekend when they face Wigan at Ashton Gate in a game they will expect to win.

The Verdict

After back to back wins over promotion chasers Sheffield United and Middlesbrough, it looked as though Bristol City's play-off push had got right back into its stride, so this could be a big blow.

Weimann has been a key part of The Robins attacking line up this season, so he would be a big miss were he to be ruled out now, particularly at such a crucial stage of the season when a place in the top six is still in their own hands.
