Bristol City have completed the signing of Benfica right-back Pedro Pereira initially on a season long-loan deal, the Championship club have now confirmed.

The Robins are expected to busy in the transfer market with just over 24 hours to go until the window slams shut, with a new centre-forward believed to be high up on the priority list for Lee Johnson.

But the Robins have now addressed another key area of the pitch, bringing in right-back Pereira on a season-long loan deal from Liga NOS side Benfica - City also hold the option to make the move permanent.

The 21-year-old has spent the last 18 months on loan with Serie side Genoa, making a total of 33 appearances for the Italian outfit across two seasons.

The young defender has made just one senior appearance for Benfica since making the move from Sampdoria in January 2017, and will now look to make even more of an impact in England for City.

The Robins have been busy this week by signing midfielder Han-Noah Massengo from Monaco, with Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah also believed to be on their transfer wishlist

The Verdict

Pereira will turn out to be a really useful signing for Benfica this season, as it's an area of the pitch that arguably needs strengthening the most.

After letting go of Eros Pisano in the summer, they needed a new, upcoming player to keep Jack Hunt on his toes, and perhaps even move above him in the pecking order at Ashton Gate.

Pereira has decent pedigree having played for Portugal's youth sides, and he will be looking to make a name for himself during his time in Bristol with the Robins.
