Bristol City assistant head coach Jamie McAllister has revealed the Robins have made enquiries to take Manchester United players on loan next season.

McAllister told the Bristol Post he has been asking United first-team coach Michael Carrick about the possibility of adding some of his young players to Bristol City's ranks.

The pair met when studying for their UEFA Pro License in France over the summer break, while the likes of Frank Lampard and Kolo Toure were also present at the event.

McAllister said he learned a lot from the experience, and claimed all those present took the opportunity to network with each other and build contacts as the transfer window enters full swing.

"We were all asking each other," McAllister told the Bristol Post.

"So Michael Carrick was on it and we're all trying to get young players off Manchester United if we can. Kolo Toure at Leicester City obviously...and Matt was asking us about various players here as well obviously."

The Verdict

It appears as though McAllister's trip to France could be of real benefit to both himself and Bristol City following this update.

Championship clubs will likely be scrambling with each other later in the window to sign players on loan from the top Premier League clubs, and it sounds like McAllister has given his side a head-start by forming this connection with Carrick.

United clearly have an abundance of talented youth players with the likes of James Garner, Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong all impressing for the club last term. However, it remains to be seen whether any of these will be allowed to seal temporary moves away this summer.

The Robins fully reaped the benefits of the loan market last season, as Tomas Kalas and Jay Dasilva both thrived at the club on loan from Chelsea. I do think Lee Johnson should be looking at the loan market this summer, but he should first focus on securing these players on a permanent basis.
