Bristol City are said to have joined the race for the signature of Burnley striker Matej Vydra, with the Bristol Post reporting that the Robins are seeking to secure a permanent deal for the 27-year-old forward this week.

Vydra boasts something of a sound record in the Championship after enjoying fruitful goal scoring spells with the likes of Watford and Derby County in the past, with the Czech Republic international having notched a total of 65 Championship goals.

Lee Johnson is very much in the market for a new striker this month as he seeks to fill the goalscoring void that has been left by Benik Afobe's enforced absence due to injury.

Vydra is viewed as a more attainable option than his fellow striker Nahki Wells and with time running out for the play-off chasers to secure the signing of a new centre forward, a move for the 27-year-old will surely please the Ashton Gate faithful.

Fans will certainly see the benefits of signing Vydra as he would offer something different in comparison to Messrs Famara Diedhiou and Andreas Weimann, only increasing the club's desire to bring him in this week.

The 27-year-old is highly unlikely to get game time at Turf Moor during the second half of the campaign, with the likes of Ashley Barnes, Chris Wood and Jay Rodriguez being ahead of the player in the pecking order up top.

Vydra could in theory provide the goals that Johnson needs in order for his side to gain promotion this term, with the experienced forward having proven himself in the past to be a good Championship striker and it is sure to be a move that will excite the club's supporters this week.
