It's safe to say that it's been a frustrating season so far for Benik Afobe in his loan spell with promotion-chasing Bristol City.

The forward arrived on loan from fellow Championship side Stoke City, and made a promising start to life at Ashton Gate as he scored three goals in his opening five appearances.

But the former Wolves striker was struck down with an ACL injury, that has kept him out of competitive action since late August, much to the frustration of the club's supporters, who will have been eager to see Afobe play a starring role in their promotion bid this season.

Lee Johnson's side are currently sat seventh in the Championship table, and will be hoping they can pull clear of their play-off chasing rivals with nine games remaining in this year's campaign.

It has previously been reported that Afobe has returned to training, although it remains to be seen as to when he'll be match-fit for the Robins.

Afobe took to Instagram on Thursday evening to issue his thoughts during the break from competitive action, and revealed that he can't wait to be back, which is certain to raise a smile amongst the Bristol City fans.

Due to recent events, Bristol City aren't due back in action until the 2nd May, when they're set to take on play-off chasing rivals Preston North End.

The Verdict:

This is an exciting update from Afobe.

This break from competitive action due to recent events could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Bristol City, as if they can get Afobe back up to speed, then he'll provide them with much-needed competition up-front for the remainder of this year's campaign.

Having Diedhiou, Wells and Afobe in the same team is a frightening prospect for any Championship opponent, as they've all shown that they can score goals on a regular basis at this level.

If Afobe can pick up where he left off for Lee Johnson's side, then I have no doubt in my mind that they'll finish inside the top-six this season.
