It's safe to say that it's been a frustrating season for Benik Afobe, who has had his time with Bristol City disrupted with injuries.

The forward made a positive start to life with Lee Johnson's side, as he scored three goals in five appearances for the Robins, before suffering a knee injury, which has kept him out of competitive action since August 2019.

Bristol City have stayed in touch with the promotion-chasing pack though, and are currently sat seventh in the second tier standings heading with nine matches remaining in this year's campaign.

However, with off-the-field problems arising, all fixtures across the EFL have been called to a halt, with no scheduled date being put in place for a return to competitive action for clubs.

This has given Afobe the chance to step up his recovery and potentially play his part in their push for promotion into the Premier League this term.

Bristol City have returned to training, with the on-loan forward being pictured back in action, which is likely to raise a smile amongst the club's supporters.

Afobe took to Instagram to reveal that he has missed being back in training, as the Robins took to the pitch on Monday.

The Verdict:

What a boost this is for Bristol City.

If Afobe had been fit for the whole season, then I'm sure that the Robins would be in a much stronger position than they currently find themselves in.

But his return to action couldn't have come at a better time, and he'll fancy his chances of challenging for a starting spot in Lee Johnson's side from now until the end of the season.

He could be the difference for the Robins in the race for promotion this term.
