It's safe to say that it's been a frustrating season so far for Benik Afobe, with the forward spending the majority of this year's campaign in the treatment room.

The striker signed for Bristol City on loan from Stoke City, and made a positive start to life with Lee Johnson's side in the Championship this term.

The 27-year-old has scored three goals in his six appearances for Bristol City this term, before picking up an anterior cruciate ligament injury in September 2019.

The Robins have coped well without Afobe though, and are currently sat seventh in the Championship table with just nine games remaining in this year's campaign.

However, due to recent off-the-field events, that promotion bid has been put on hold for the foreseeable future, with no scheduled return date being put in place as of yet.

Afobe has recently taken to Instagram to issue an update on his fitness, and revealed that he is getting quicker and stronger each day, which will be pleasing to hear for the club's supporters.

The Verdict:

This is an encouraging update on Afobe's fitness.

The break from competitive action came at an ideal time for the on-loan forward, as it's given him more time to build up his match fitness ahead of the final nine games of this year's campaign.

The Robins will be keen to put together a positive run of results when fixtures do return though, as they've got a real chance of finishing inside the top-six this term.

If Afobe can recapture his best run of form in front of goal, then Bristol City could be one of the teams to look out for in the battle for a spot in the play-offs.
