Swansea City have made an official approach for Bristol City attacking midfielder Kasey Palmer whilst Crystal Palace also remain interested, according to The Bristol Post.

Palmer has been frozen out of the Robins first-team by Lee Johnson in recent weeks and the outlet are now reporting that he is open to a move away from Ashton Gate, especially if what he sees as singling out by his current manager continues in the coming weeks.

The 23-year-old only made his move to the West of England permanent in the summer, completing his move from Chelsea after spending the second half of the previous season on loan with the club.

QUIZ: Can you name the only 7 Bristol City players to have been sold to the Premier League?

During the 2018/19 campaign, he netted two goals in 15 appearances for the Robins and has gone on to net one more and three assists this time around, although he has not made the matchday squad for any of the last three games despite being fully fit.

The pressure mounted on manager Lee Johnson significantly on New Year's Day as his side were thrashed 4-0 by promotion-chasing Brentford at home, meaning they had now lost five of their last six second-tier games.

With 26 games played they sit in 11th place and, although just three points remain between them and the play-offs, there is a real air of negativity creeping over the club.

The verdict

This would be a truly terrible move from Johnson and Bristol City in my opinion.

Granted, Palmer has not set the world alight this season, but then nobody has in this City team this season. He is already being rightly hammered for his treatment of Niclas Eliasson so I cannot see how selling another exciting, creative player will solve anything.

Johnson should be looking to nurture the attacking-midfielder. He is the sort of galvanising talent needed at the club now more than ever and I can't help but think loaning him out would be a huge mistake.
