Sky Bet League One outfit Bristol City are eyeing a permanent deal for Fulham striker Matt Smith, according to West London Sport.

Cotterill would like Smith to sign a permanent deal

The 25-year-old joined Bristol City on loan at the start of the season and has been in impressive form for the League One high-flyers.

The striker has a wealth of experience of plying his trade in the Football League, having had spells at Oldham Athletic, Macclesfield Town, Leeds United, and Fulham.

Robins manager Steve Cotterill spoke to West London Sport about the contribution, saying: "Matt came into the team with Jay (Emmanuel-Thomas), after Kieran (Agard) and Aaron (Wilbraham) had suffered their injuries.

“That’s a real credit to Matt and Jay. They ended up striking up a partnership.

“There will be a tinge of sadness for Matt on Saturday because he’s enjoyed his time here.

“He’s been a big character on the field, but also off the pitch as well.

“We’ll all keep an eye on Matt from now on. He’s been a brilliant loan signing and he’s a first-class lad.”

The 6ft 6 striker is seemingly unwanted at Kit Symons' Fulham side, and it would be no surprise to see the forward return to Bristol City.

However, with Smith impressing at Ashton Gate it would be no surprise to see a host of Football League clubs vying for the 25-year-old's signature.

Steve Cotterill's side currently sit top of Sky Bet League One, and are five points clear at the top of the division, having amassed 67 points from 32 league games.
