Bristol City have been dealt a big blow for next season with the news that Famara Diedhiou has been handed a six-game ban for spitting.

The incident came in the Robins' 3-1 win over Birmingham City back on April 10, with the striker initially denying the charge. However, he was found guilty by an FA Regulatory Commission after a hearing, with the club confirming the news on their website.

Spitting on an opposition player automatically results in a six-game ban now if you are found guilty, with Samuel Saiz of Leeds United getting the same length ban for an incident with a Newport County player back in January.

However, Bristol City could be set to appeal the decision with the club statement revealing that Diedhiou still denies the allegation.

They added; "Bristol City has requested the full written reasons from The FA and upon receipt will consult with the club’s legal team as to the options for appealing the decision of the Regulatory Commission."

Should the ban stand, Diedhiou would miss the first six games of the new season which starts on August 4.

The Verdict

This is bad news for Bristol City and Diedhiou as this is a lengthy suspension however if he has spat on an opponent it's thoroughly deserved.

Clearly, this could run on for some time though as the Robins statement suggests they are going to look at potential appeal options.

If they fail though it's a problem for Lee Johnson to deal with for the start of the season.
